The 2026 democratic primary election is one month away, and if you have been watching the race, you would know that this is an interesting one.
Two Texas political legends in the making, Jasmine Crockett and James Talarico, are vying for a singular spot to be the Democratic nominee for the 2026 U.S. Senate race in Texas. Many people have shared their displeasure with having two star candidates compete against each other. I've seen people on social media raise questions like "why did Crockett enter the race when Talarico was already running?" or "why is Talarico running for U.S. senate when he should have run to be the governor of Texas?" These are reasonable questions, but instead of asking "why?" a better question to ask is "what's next?"
Let's remember: a Democrat has not been elected to the U.S. Senate in Texas since Eddie Murphy's Coming to America dominated theaters. The democrats have their work cut out for them. There are two qualified elected officials on the ballot, and there is an electorate that seems heated. There is necessary discourse to be had, but the conversations should be productive. This is not celebrity gossip; these candidates are running to wield power in the upper chamber of Congress. They are trying to convince us to hire them for a job. Let's keep the politics rooted in policy. Whoever wins on March 3rd still has another election ahead of them in November.
Early voting is from February 17th to 27th. Election Day is March 3rd. Have you made your plan to vote? Find your nearest voting location here.
Get out the vote,
A Texas-born, raised, and educated Democrat
