Thank you for checking out my blog! I’m Destiny, the founder and author of Politically Healthy. I am a second-year master of public health (MPH) student passionate about community uplift and prosperity. When I began college in 2021, I had it in mind that once I earned my Bachelor of Science in public health, I would head to medical school. As I completed my degree and continued to be involved both on and off my campus, I realized that while I was committed to improving people’s quality of life, becoming a physician was not the best career for me to fulfill my passion. During my last semester of undergrad, I realized that public health can get political, and two months after I graduated, I decided that after I earned my MPH, I would head to law school and pursue a legal career.

Since I was a kid, I have felt a sense of responsibility to positively contribute to the spaces I occupy. This feeling manifested as serving in leadership roles and lending a helping hand whenever I could. Now, at 22, I have decided to channel this feeling into a blog. I decided to start this blog because I noticed a need to share how politics influences public health. It may not seem clear at first how the two are related, but consider the following: there was once a time when the United States did not have its extensive workers’ safety laws. And the complex workings of our health care system were not established overnight. Public health is an integral and continuous part of our quality of life, whether we notice it or not.

Politically Healthy is committed to respectfully sharing fact-based information about how political decisions affect our quality of life. From the economy to the environment, from the clinics to the classrooms, the United States’ public health infrastructure is interconnected, and our political choices matter. Visit Politically Healthy every Tuesday to explore how politics impacts public health.
